ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – Frontier Field will look a bit different this summer.
The Red Wings sent a letter to season ticketholders on Monday saying they are working with Monroe County to add 15-foot high netting that will extend to the end of both dugouts.
The new netting will likely not be in place by Opening Day. It’s expected to be installed in April while the team is on the road.
Major League Baseball announced extended netting would be in all of their ballparks on February 1st. The change was recommended for all minor league parks and seems a no-brainer.
“I don’t think it can hurt,” said Wings fan Tom Burke Monday from Winfield’s Bar and Grill in Rochester. “Certainly, most of my adult life, I’ve been in stadiums that didn’t have a lot of protective netting. But, I’ve seen some nasty things happen and what’s the harm?”
